The difference between live.com and start.com

The difference between live.com and start.com

I've been getting a lot of questions about the difference between live.com and start.com. They are both built by our team and are for the most part the same code base. Start.com is an incubation project that was started to build a new type of portal using dhtml and xmlhttp. The goal was to get a fast, personalized page that felt like an application as opposed to a web page. This technology became known as AJAX (asynchronous javascript and XML). We took the start.com code base and turned it into Live.com. Live.com is the homepage for windows live http://ideas.live.com. The two will most likely diverge a bit in the future. Live.com will be marketed and most likely start.com won't. We'll continue to try things out on start.com from time to time that aren't ready for the mainstream. For the record, live.com is my homepage.
